A dealership is two buildings pretending to be one. The showroom is a glass box built to sell, and the service drive behind it is an industrial operation running doors hard all day. Both sides live or die on openings, and they fail in completely different ways.
All Pro Door Repair works on dealerships, independent repair shops, body shops and fleet garages across Dallas-Fort Worth. Here’s what actually breaks on each side of the building.
Service bay overhead doors and the cycle problem
Service bay doors are the highest-cycle doors most dealerships own. A busy express lane door opens for every car in and every car out, plus every tech who wants air moving through the bay. That’s easily 80 to 150 cycles a day on one opening.
Standard commercial spring packages are commonly rated around 10,000 cycles. Do the math on 100 cycles a day and you’re through that rating in well under a year. This is why shops that “just replaced the springs” keep replacing the springs. The fix isn’t better installation, it’s a high-cycle spring package sized to the traffic.
We repair and install for service and body shops:
- Sectional steel and insulated bay doors
- Full-view aluminum and glass doors on service drives and showroom bays
- High-cycle torsion springs, cables, rollers and tracks
- Commercial openers, including jackshaft units where headroom is tight
- Safety sensors and auto-reverse systems
- Bottom seals and weather stripping
Headroom is the other dealership-specific issue. Lifts, exhaust reels and air lines eat the space above a bay door, and a lot of shops need a jackshaft operator mounted to the side rather than a trolley unit down the middle of the ceiling.
Full-view glass doors, because the service drive is a sales tool now
Aluminum full-view doors have taken over dealership service drives and showroom bays for an obvious reason. They let daylight into a space that used to feel like a cave, and they let customers see the shop, which builds trust in a business where trust is the whole sale.
They also come with tradeoffs worth knowing before you buy. Aluminum and glass doors are heavier than an equivalent steel door, which changes the spring and operator spec. And glass in DFW takes hail, so the glazing choice matters. We install and service full-view doors and can replace individual glass panels rather than the whole door when one gets hit.
Showroom storefront and glazing
The showroom is a glass building, and glass problems there are brand problems. A cracked panel at the main entry is the first thing every customer sees on the way in.
We handle storefront entry doors and the hardware that fails on them, which on a dealership is almost always the closer or the pivot. Showroom entries cycle constantly and get pushed by people carrying keys, coffee and paperwork, so closers wear out fast and doors start dragging or failing to latch.
We also handle commercial glass and glazing, glass partition walls for finance offices and sales cubicles, and storefront water leak repair, which comes up more than people expect. A leaking storefront joint above a showroom floor is a slip hazard and a stained ceiling tile that never stops reappearing.
Lot gates and after-hours security
Every dealership has inventory sitting outside overnight. Gates, rolling grilles and secured parts entrances are part of the door package for a reason. We service commercial gates and gate operators, and security film on ground-level glass makes forced entry through a panel a much slower job than a single hit.
Common questions from dealership and shop managers
Our bay door springs keep breaking. Is that a bad installer?
Usually not. It’s almost always a spring rated for a normal commercial door installed on a door running dealership traffic. Re-springing to a high-cycle package sized to your real daily count fixes it.
Can you replace one glass panel in a full-view door?
Yes, in most cases. If the frame and the rest of the door are sound, replacing the damaged panel is far cheaper than replacing the door.
Can you work after the shop closes?
Yes. We’re available after hours and on weekends, which is generally the only sane time to take a service bay out of commission.
Do you handle the showroom glass and the shop doors, or just one?
Both. Entry doors, glass and glazing, and overhead doors are all in-house for us, so the showroom and the service drive come off the same call.
